Humboldt Baseball Blows Up in 6th, Losses Second in a Row

Hampton, Iowa — It wasn’t particularly a nice day for baseball on a soggy, windy and cold Monday afternoon in Hampton.

But for six innings — or thereabouts — all was good for the Humboldt Wildcat baseball team.

Boy, how quickly things can change.

Humboldt gave up five runs in the 6th, all charged to the line of starting pitcher Jake Thurm, to fall 7-4 to Hampton-Dumont last night.

The Wildcats mustered all but six hits— all of which came from the top three in the order — and couldn’t get anything going off of Hampton reliever Drew Uhlenhopp who pitched three scoreless innings in relief.

Freshman pitcher Jake Thurm took the loss, he’s now 2-2.

Thurm was darn good until the 6th. He allowed six hits, seven runs — but only four were earned — but walked five, while striking out four.

The loss was Humboldt’s second in a row, they sit at 10-12 overall.

Humboldt is off tonight (Tuesday) but will host Algona, Wednesday at home.
