Humboldt, IA — Down the road and later on in the day the Humboldt City Council met for their bi-weekly meeting.

To start, all items on the consent agenda were approved which included a new Class B Native Wine Permit for Kathy Davis of Personali-Tees.

New business followed with the council members accepting the resignation of Merri Hansen as Animal Control Officer and terminate the Animal Control Officer employment contract. Discussion then moved to the city’s part in the proposed animal shelter building. No official action was taken by the council members but all members tentatively agreed to match the county’s pledge of $7500 to the Animal Shelter 501c3, but once again no official action was done. To close new business, approval was made for Requests for Proposals for a proposed sanitary sewer pipe lining project.

In Resolutions all were approved to Humboldt Mutual Insurance Association, Hoag’s Plumbing & Heating, the American Legion Building, and V&S Variety Store. Approval was made for the final assessment plat and schedule for the 2019 water/sewer service line repair assessment program, and authorization for budget transfers in fiscal year 2019-2020. Finally in resolutions, Denver Underground & Grading Inc was paid amounts of $171,425.70 for the Highway 169 and Sumner Avenue project, and $35,169.43 for phase 1 of the recreation center infrastructure project. Also, Sande Construction was paid $59,900.37 for the first installment of the downtown revitalization project.

To close the meeting in council and staff comments, City Administrator Travis Geodken wanted to reassure the public that anyone outside of the area for the downtown project would not have their tax dollars used, and the ones in the district would not see their property taxes go up because of it either. Geodken announced that the city’s bond rating has gone up and overall Humboldt has been a net positive in revenue the last three years.
