Iowa Unemployment Rate The Same For 12 Straight Months

Des Moines, IA — The Iowa unemployment rate stayed steady in June at 2.4% to make it now a full year that the number hasn’t changed.

Workforce Development’s Donna Burkett says it’s a little surprising that the number change slightly as there was some job growth last month. 2,000 manufacturing jobs were added in June and Iowa has added 2700 more over the past 3 months while also getting 900 more jobs in construction. Burkett says that even with more people joining the labor force last month it wasn’t enough to change the number.

Compared to the national average, the US unemployment rate went up just slightly at 3.7%. Iowa currently ranks 3rd amongst all states, as we trail only North Dakota and Vermont who has the lowest at 2.1%. Alaska has the highest unemployment at 6.4%.
