Des Moines, IA — All Iowa counties outside of 16 are in a heat advisory that started yesterday and will continue into Saturday evening.

Humboldt County is included in this group and with temperatures coupled with high humidity will put heat indexes between 100 and 110 degrees. All persons are warned about staying out in the sun too long with elderly and kids being the biggest concern as they are more susceptible to heat related illnesses. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are the biggest culprits and combated with regular hydration. Symptoms of either illness are tiredness, fainting, but more serious action needs to be taken for heat stroke which can cause delirium and seizures.

Health professionals recommend staying in shaded areas and for individuals to take regular hydration breaks as the added humidity makes the body produce more perspiration than normal.
