Ward 3 Council Member Stands By Nay Vote

Humboldt, IA — Joel Goodell stood alone in voting nay in the decision to approve the downtown construction in Humboldt.

However, Goodell was in good spirits when spoken to about the situation. He believes he was voicing concerns of some Humboldt citizens that weren’t totally on board with the project and wanted to make sure their voices were being heard during the process. Goodell says he was disappointed with the bidding of the project with only two contractors coming to the table. The numbers that were proposed in the bids seemed high to Goodell and feels like the number could have been lowered if they could’ve waited longer.

However in the meeting one of the contractors voiced that they wouldn’t have rebid had the project items be restructured. The vote for the downtown construction was passed on Tuesday with a vote of 3-1.
