Humboldt, IA — Pitching and defense doomed Hampton Dumont as they conceded eight runs in the 6th inning and lost to the Humboldt Wildcat baseball team 14-4.
Michael Brightly got the start and went the distance getting his second win of the season and finishing with a season high 12 strikeouts. Eight of the nine starters reached base as Humboldt moves to 12-8 and 5-2 in North Central Conference play. The Wildcats are now in sole possession of 2nd place in the conference and play first place Webster City on the road on Wednesday.
#3 Humboldt softball also had a solid 7-3 win against Hampton-Dumont at home last night to improve to 19-2 and keep pace in the North Central Conference race. Kendal Clark had a big night going 4 for 4 with a double and a run scored. The third ranked Wildcats play tonight on the road against Pocahontas before playing conference leader Webster City on Wednesday.
