City Council and Supervisors Meetings Today

Humboldt, IA — Two orders of business are to take place here in Humboldt County today as the weekly Humboldt County Supervisors meeting is to take place along with the bi-weekly Humboldt City Council meeting.

For the Supervisors meeting, order of business includes approving the fuel quote from county engineer Ben Loots for the 2019-20 fiscal year. Other approvals include the resolution to include a county seal on election ballots starting this fall, and a guarantee of indebtedness for the new cabins planned at Joe Sheldon Park.

Tonight, the Humboldt city council has quite a few notable motions to discuss and approve, with the headlining resolution being to hold a special election for the vacant city council seat to be filled from now until the end of the year as the date will be finalized for the special election. Jim Meyers was appointed the new first ward council member last meeting but it was still in question as an unspecified citizen is also interested in the seat and is planning to challenge for the council spot, hence the special election.

New business for the city council includes the approval to purchase a snow plow, a street closure by Bob and James Abens for June 28th, and a street closure for the 4th of July festival. With the Humota theater fundraiser coming to a close on Saturday, discussion will be made on possible action regarding the fundraiser. Tonight’s city council meeting is at 5:30 at the Humboldt Municipal Building.
