Des Moines, Iowa — The Iowa Hemp Act is likely to be approved this week, according to Senator Tim Kapucian (R-IA).

The act will allow Iowa farmers to be able to grow industrial hemp. A bipartisan group of lawmakers have been working on this issue for three years. Kapucian said in a statement given Monday that Iowans are “innovative, entrepreneurial” and wants to “see how far they can go.”

Under the bill, farmers must obtain a state license to grow hemp. The Iowa Departments of Agriculture and Public Safety will oversee production, to ensure it is not being grown as a cover for marijuana.
