Humboldt, Iowa — Taking on the #9 team in Iowa Falls-Alden, you had to know Humboldt’s margin error for was small.

But when just one quarter undid the Cats last night, you could surmise the young team is starting to learn their way under head coach Rodd Mooney.

Humboldt (3-11) fell last night to the Cadets (13-1) 64-49, but played the Cadets tough for 3 of 4 quarters.

IF-A outscored Humboldt 24-12 in the 2nd quarter, including a late 16-2 flurry to take a 12 point lead into recess, one that they didn’t relinquish.

The Wildcats cut the lead to single digits multiple times in the second half, but couldn’t get things back to level-pegging.

Mady Lange led Humboldt with 14 points, while Jori Hajek, Bae Arnold and Jayda Hoefer all had productive offensive nights.

The Cats were without the services of Ashlyn Clark who was out with flu-like symptoms.

Katie Meyer had 22 points to pace the Cadets.

Grace Renaud chipped in with 20.

Humboldt will have another tough test Friday at Algona.

Tip-off is set for 6:15 p.m.
