Dakota City, Iowa — The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors came to a 50% cost share agreement with Humboldt County landowner Bob Lynch at their meeting on Monday.

Lynch, who has acreage 1/2 mile south of Highway 3, near 220th Street.

Drainage engineer Rick Hopper, who investigated the area, believes that part of the problem could be that the project affected the ground water movement.

Hopper also inferred the tile could be broken.

He told the board that there was no standing water as of right now.

Lynch originally asked the supervisors to foot the entire project bill, in the amount of $2,780.20.

The board made the motion to approve the cost share, but only at 50%.

In a 3-2 vote, the motion passed.

Supervisor chair Bruce Reimers and Rick Pedersen voted nay.

Pedersen said that by approving this the board was not following drainage code, and could potentially open up a can of worms for future situations.
