Humboldt, Iowa — Opening their schedule with a six-game gauntlet, Justin McDaniel’s Humboldt Wildcat volleyball team fared very well, going 5-1 in the debut of their 2018 season.

The Wildcats earned sweep victories over Fort Dodge, Grand View Christian, South Central Calhoun, Spirit Lake and Emmetsburg.

Humboldt’s lone loss on the night came to the hands of the #1 team in 3A, Carroll Kuemper Catholic, who swept the Wildcats.

The scoreline, despite the sweep was very competitive.

Humboldt lost game one 21-19, then fell 21-17, both of which were the two closest games Kuemper played all day.

Ashlyn Clark and Jori Hajek each had six kills in the defeat, will Carlie Thompson had ten digs from the back-row.

The Wildcats will have off until Thursday when they’ll open North Central Conference play at home versus Clear Lake.
