Dakota City, Iowa — A livestock semi shut down 1st Avenue North for parts of the afternoon Monday the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office says.

The semi-driver, 26-year old Philip Griese of Lakota, Iowa, was uninjured in the accident.

According to law enforcement officials, Griese was westbound on 1st Avenue North in Dakota City. Griese drove under the trestle and the semi exhaust made contact with the trestle causing damages to the semi.

The livestock trailer — loaded with hogs — also got stuck under the trestle, causing the trestle to move.

The trailer was considered totaled.

Griese was charged with a weight overload citation, as well as Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device.

The property damage on the trestle was estimated at about $5,000.
