Humboldt, Iowa — The City of Humboldt as well as the Humboldt Police Department have announced the hiring of a new police officer, following the departure of Andrew Lane.

Lane, hired last year, left for the Fort Dodge Police Department, city officials said.

The city interviewed three candidates and eventually extended an offer to Andrew Shillington, of Humboldt.

Shillington served on the Humboldt Police Department while another officer was on deployment approximately five years ago.

Shillington’s most recent work was in Ida County as a deputy. He will begin his duties in Humboldt on September 4th.

City Administrator Travis Goedken said that the hire is not affiliated with the school resource officer position which was created last month.

Goedken said the city is still handling applications on that position.
