County Hears Concern on Oakdale Park

Humboldt, Iowa — The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors face a crossroads on what to do with Oakdale Park, a campground area two miles southeast of Renwick.

The supervisors heard from John Dahlke on the matter.

Dahlke told the board that Wright County came to Humboldt County Conservation in asking to close the campground.

However, Humboldt Conservation said they didn’t want things to close, so they vowed to take things over for the year.

Dahlke explained that while that may be true, the park is not in great shape. Over the last weeks Dahlke told the supervisors he saw “a full sized axe stuck in a tree as well as drug paraphernalia.”

Right now it’s just got a negative connotations [right now]'” he said.

He said that Oakdale isn’t managed to the standards of other Humboldt County parks such as Gotch or Sheldon.

Dahlke asked the supervisors to put more resources into the park and if not he asked them to contact the conservation board to close the park.

He claimed there had been multiple welfare checks at the property as well. Humboldt and Wright County are currently splitting expenses half and half.

The supervisors, thankful for the information, told Dahlke they would talk to Todd Lee and come up with a plan on the campground moving forward.

No official action was taken Monday.
