Iowa Select, County Seeing Eye-to-Eye on New Hog Site

Humboldt, Iowa — The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors seem genuinely agreeable with the improved communication lines between them and Iowa Select farms, the group discussed a proposed site near Delaware avenue yesterday morning.

Supervisor Erik Underberg has spearheaded the communication between both sides citing that Iowa Select will contact the county before construction.

They’re being more upfront, which is good” said Underberg of Iowa Select. “It does feel like they’re putting their better foot forward.”

The supervisors have been battling hog operations for quite some time, resulting in two trips to the state house in Des Moines over the last couple of years.

When all was said and done, the supervisors repeatedly asked for improved communication from the site to the county. All indications seem like that is happening.

The newest site, just east and south of Bradgate, will also feature a new fencing technology to help mask the odor. Iowa Select is installing that in all new finishing sites across the state.

Adjacent landowners also met with the supervisors who were appreciative of the heads-up.

There was, however, no talks about the proposed site in Thor.
