City of Humboldt to Host Movie Theater Meeting Tonight

Humboldt, Iowa — The City of Humboldt will be hosting a community meeting regarding the future of the Humota Movie Theater in downtown Humboldt this evening.

The meeting is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. at Humboldt City Hall.

Of course the meeting comes on the heels of the City of Humboldt’s announcement that if there is no succession plan in place by September 1st, the theater would be forced to close.

The theater has been a mainstay in downtown Humboldt since 1928.

The transition would include donation of the building and a heavily discounted price for the equipment inside. There are some capital improvements that will be required to maintain the building such as replacing the roof and HVAC system that would require a capital campaign to fund those projects.

There had been speculation by the Fort Dodge Messenger that a Webster City man had interest in the building, although the seriousness of his interest is unknown at this time.
